‘Dialogue with Photography’ by Paul Hill and Thomas Cooper
‘Dialogue with Photography’ was co-authored by Paul Hill and Thomas Cooper. The book contains 352 pages and was published in October 1998 and it contains number of interviews with some of the most iconic figures in the world of photography.
The authors, Hill and Cooper, sat down with a number of popular photographers who were active throughout the 1970’s and interviewed each one. The results have been collected and packaged into this book, which is truly an impressive read for anyone with an interest in photography.
The list of photographers who are featured includes Ansel Adams, Robert Doisneau, Cecil Beaton, Paul Strand and many more. As an added bonus, this latest edition includes a previously unpublished interview with Henri Cartier-Bresson.
The length of each interview varies dramatically, as some of the subjects had plenty to say to Hill and Cooper, while others spoke more sparingly. A number of the photographers speak of the various frustrations they encountered while struggling to find success, during their early careers. There are also some interesting interviews that talk about the impact of events that world events had on both their photography and their lives. Almost all of the interviewees provide good solid advice for aspiring photographers.
eaders should understand that this is meant to be a thought provoking book about photography. While it is quite common for this type of book to contain a number of photographs, readers will not find any in ‘Dialogue with Photography’
